Company background

Morris Homes is one of the country’s largest independently owned house builders. Based in Cheshire, the company has been helping people to buy new homes across the North West, Midlands and South of England for more than 60 years.

The site at Egerton Park won The Bricks Development of the Year award (51-100 units) North in 2020 for the refurbishment of a Grade II listed former factory site and new homes in Altrincham, Cheshire.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have won this prestigious award. My site team are also thrilled to bits to get recognition for the tremendously hard work everyone has put in. They have realised that they have been a major part of history in bringing back the Linotype building to its former glory.”

Mark Sherwood – Senior Site Manager

Describe the biggest challenge you had to overcome in creating Egerton Park?

The development at Egerton Park presented Morris Homes with a unique yet challenging opportunity: could it preserve the landmark Grade II listed Linotype and Machinery factory building yet bring it back into use, and compliment the structure with new-build homes on the factory site?

Imagine the pressure faced by an experienced new-home development site manager facing his first major refurbishment project of a landmark building? What Morris Homes needed was not just technical expertise but partners flexible enough to work with them – rather than against them – during each stage of a demanding build.

The biggest challenge at Egerton Park was walking into the Linotype building for the first time and realising the scale of the project. I thought, “What have I let myself in for?” But in all the years I’ve been site managing I’ve always been up for any challenge. I can honestly say Egerton Park has changed my life and this building will stick in the memory forever.
