Bloor Homes crowned Developer of the Year as Bricks 2019 winners celebrate

With nominations in five development categories and two category wins, Bloor Homes dominated a fabulous night of award-winning homes and people at The Bricks 2019.

Impressionist Rory Bremner helped LABC Warranty award a total of 12 Brick trophies to developers, builders and individuals whose work impressed our panel of judges the most during the last 12 months.

Bloor Homes won both the 51+ unit categories (North and South) with their Standish Grange and Longwood Fields developments, while South Wales-based firm J G Hale Construction clinched the social housing category with their Cardiff housing scheme for Wales and West Housing.

Judges praise both site practice and workmanship

Winning developments were praised for both the standard of sites as well as workmanship in the builds.

On High Grange’s Keekle Meadows development, judges said: “The commitment to quality was evident in this development and across the board from management to the workforce – it is a truly exceptional development.”

For their Village Mews development in Rowner, Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties “reflected leadership through good planning and positive actions with a focus on quality across the entire build.”

“First impressions are very important,” the judges said on Bloor Homes North West’s Standish Grange development. “On this winning site, the organisation, the site safety and the quality of works both under construction and the completed homes are very clear to see and have been particularly well managed.”

The judges said they faced an especially difficult decision to declare a winner in the Multi-storey category. In naming M H Stainton’s The Broadway on Morecambe seafront, they said: “Extensive and committed research has been necessary on this particular development. Detailing, actual construction and the integration of differing materials has been complex. That said, the finished product is simply stunning.”

About the Bricks

The Bricks recognises and rewards the exceptional work of developers, builders, contractors and housing associations who go the extra mile, regardless of size, to deliver quality in construction. The awards also acknowledge the hard work and dedication of individuals behind the scenes also involved in the development projects.

Only the Rising Star, Unsung Hero and Bricks and Mortar categories are based on public nominations. All development categories are assessed by our surveyors throughout the year, with longlists put forward by them to our expert panel of judges for final deliberation.
