As a developer you will know all too well that new build homes need to comply with Building Regulations. One of the key requirements since 2010 is to minimise unnecessary water consumption.
So what do you need to do as a developer?
Developers need to supply the Local Authority or Approved Inspector with the potential water consumption for any new homes within 5 days of completion.
Under Approved Document G of the building regulations, new home owners are required to use a maximum of 125 litres of water per person per day. That’s the equivalent of drinking 500 cups of tea or making 2500 ice cubes. More realistically though, it should be enough water for a quick shower, several flushes of the toilet, a wash and maybe even a load in the dishwasher! But don’t forget to make sure they have enough water for a nice hot cuppa as well!
You can use an LABC approved calculator to help you work this out in accordance with the guidelines.
