Judging the Bricks. Step 8: Surface Finishing

You only get one chance to make a first impression and how the surfaces on your build are finished will be a big part for any perspective buyer, so it’s important you finish them well.

Within surface finishing’s we consider:

  • Internal finishes
  • Floor finishes
  • External finishes (incl cladding where appropriate)

Mike Swatton, our Head Judge goes into detail on what he looks for in terms of surface finishing’s when he’s judging for The Bricks .

“We look at a number of things but the key areas we look at are wall finishing’s, floor finishing’s and ceiling finishing’s. Making sure the plaster work is good, the jointing and boarding is well done and in terms of ceiling finishing’s ensuring the joints are not visible. When it comes to reveals and window reveals, checking they are square to the frame and finished off neatly.”
