Garden Town developments to be fast tracked with funding from Government

The Government has pledged a seven-figure cash boost to accelerate the construction of over 155 thousand new homes across England. Sajid Javid, Communities Secretary, announced £2.5 million in funding for nine locally led garden town schemes.

The nine garden towns are located in the following areas:

  • Bicester
  • Basingstoke
  • Didcot
  • Otterpool Park (Kent)
  • Aylesbury
  • Harlow-Gilston
  • North Essex
  • Taunton
  • North Northamptonshire

The idea behind the investment is to fast track the build phase of these large housing projects. Each are, “committed to delivering high-quality, well-planned and well-designed new communities” according to a recent statement by the Government.

This is all a part of the Government’s Housing White Paper, which details support for the locally led development of ten garden towns and cities as well as 14 garden villages. In total the schemes have the potential to deliver somewhere in the region of 220 thousand new homes.

“Locally led garden towns have enormous potential to deliver the homes that communities need. This new funding will help support the construction of more than 155 thousand homes in nine places across the country. New communities not only deliver homes, but also bring new jobs and facilities and a big boost to local economies.’’
