Developers describe their experiences working with LABC Warranty through new case studies
“Knowledgeable”, “approachable” and “having LABC Warranty on our side ensures everything runs smoothly” are among some of the key themes that have emerged through several new case studies we have developed with LABC Warranty customers.
We spoke to M H Stainton in Lancashire, Cyden Homes in Lincolnshire, Jessup in Staffordshire and Cumbria’s High Grange Developments. We asked them to describe their business objectives and how LABC Warranty was able to work with them to help achieve their ambitions. Here is a brief summary of what they said.
Smaller builders strongly value reputation and word-of-mouth
Of the four developers featured, M H Stainton and High Grange Developments develop up to 20 to 25 units per year. Their emphasis is on quality and reputation delivered via local word-of-mouth.
High Grange maintains that customer referral accounts for 9 out of every 10 of their sales. They believe in the power of industry awards that recognise build quality, such as LABC Warranty’s annual awards, The Bricks. With 19 employees and (typically) 40 contractors working for them our technical knowledge and experienced surveyors are also highly valued by High Grange.
M H Stainton leans towards “innovative building approaches and questioning the norm.” According to founder Michael Stainton, LABC Warranty’s commitment to quality echoes their vision and he describes us as being “part of the team.”
Prompt service keeps developments moving along
In Lincolnshire, Cyden Homes aims to build 200 new homes a year. While they also value the quality and expertise of warranty surveyors, avoiding any delays is also important. They appreciate prompt site inspections and visits, especially if any issues arise. For instance, in one case they needed advice on the installation and use of retaining walls on a sloping site which was provided quickly to allow building to continue.
Jessup the Midlands develops new build, refurbishment and regeneration schemes for affordable and private housing as well as commercial and industrial projects on sites across the Midlands. Building around 250 homes a year, the challenges they face in sourcing skilled labour and construction materials are not uncommon in the construction sector.
According to Jessup, key factors to choose LABC Warranty are “cost and ease of application.” According to General Manager Peter Butler, Jessup “found other warranty providers difficult to work with at times. There wasn’t always a natural fit between them and local building control, with differing regulations.”
